The calf's 2:1 lever ratio is the most mechanically efficient in the body — the Achilles tendon inserts only half the distance from the ankle joint as the ball of the foot. To create a growth stimulus: heavy loads, high reps (15–25), and slow eccentrics (3–5 seconds).
2:1 lever ratio — the most efficient lever in the body means you need extreme loading. A 100 kg barbell only creates ~200 N of calf tension.
Standing = gastrocnemius — straight knees keep the gastrocnemius (the large, visible calf muscle) fully engaged across both the knee and ankle joints.
Progressive overload 15/15 — barbell allows micro-loading for the heavy loads calves require.
Placed sixth to begin the calf block with the compound calf muscle.
