Why this exercise

Third-highest hypertrophy score in the entire 1,619-exercise database. The lateral deltoid has the most extreme mechanical disadvantage in the human body: a 20:1 lever ratio. The deltoid inserts only ~1.5 cm from the shoulder joint, but your hand is ~30 cm away. This means 5 kg on the cable creates approximately 1,000 N of deltoid tension.

The physics is stark: 10 kg on a calf raise (2:1 ratio) produces ~20 N of muscle tension. 5 kg on this lateral raise (20:1 ratio) produces ~1,000 N. Understanding this ratio is the single most important insight from the force diagrams for training programming.
