Body part: Chest · Muscle group: Upper and inner pectorals · Equipment: high pulley, flat bench
Why this exercise
Top-scoring chest exercise in the 1,619-exercise database. The cable maintains constant pectoral tension through the full adduction range of motion — there is no dead spot at lockout like bench press, where the bar stacks directly above the shoulder joint and torque drops to zero.
Lever ratio 6:1 — the pec inserts ~5 cm from the shoulder joint, but the hand is ~30 cm away. Every kilogram on the cable stack creates roughly 6× that force in the pec fibers.
Tension continuity 19/20 — the cable pulls from a fixed high anchor regardless of arm angle, so sin(θ) in the torque equation never approaches zero.
Stretch-under-load 11/15 — at the bottom of the arc, arms wide, pec fibers are near-maximally lengthened under tension, the strongest signal for hypertrophy.
Placed first because the force diagrams show muscles generate maximum tension when un-fatigued. Cable isolation before compound pressing is reversed from traditional programming but justified by the scoring: this exercise creates more muscle tension per rep than a bench press.
